9 Gates designs For Plastic Mold Building

Image
The gate is a narrow intersection between the main runner and the mould cavity, and the intersection is also the shortest part on the whole mold. Its function is to make the molten plastic enter into the mould cavity quickly, which is beneficial to the rapid filling of the cavity. After filling, the gate is condensed first to block the cavity, prevent the melted plastic from falling and avoid the pressure drop of the cavity too fast. Insufficient backup pressure would produce shrinkage holes or dent parts on the workpiece. http://res.cloudinary.com/dl8a9jvpa/video/upload/v1515562285/Gate_Locations_xsub9b.mp4 Edge gate The edge gate represents the simplest of gate designs , it is very easy to make, and usually milling cuter can finish this job. Although it is easy to produce, the use of  edge gate is severely restricted due to poor filling. In this case, the overall strength of the plastic product obtained is poor, and the surface finish is also not good, and the edge gate is usually us

undercut mould

Image
In order to understand the various designs of undercut mould , we must first understand the definition of what a moulded undercut really is. In its most simplistic form,an undercut can be described as any feature on the moulding which resists the line of the draw or inhibits the ejection of the moulding from the mould. Moulded features which include retention beads, grooves, side holes, deeply eroded surface finishes, reverse draft angles, internal and external rigid threads can all be classified as undercut features if they resist the line of draw . In order to eject such features from the mould, the forming component parts of the mould must be retracted prior to ejection taking place. This pre-ejection removal of the mould coring components is usually referred to as core pulling. http://res.cloudinary.com/dl8a9jvpa/video/upload/f_mp4/v1515562261/Undercuts_ni5xth.mp4   Core pulling Core pulling is an expensive business and should only be undertaken when no alternative option exists. The

How to choose mould steel

Image
The choice of mould steel is of great importance if the mould is to function effectively. When plastic is molded, due to molecular stretching and shearing, residual stress is left in the product, which causes the product to warp and even crack. Residual stress is also generated during the machining of the mold steel. This residual stress also causes the mold to deform or even crack. The prime function of any mould steel must be that of meeting the service requirements imposed upon it. Moulding requirements vary,e.g. from simple prototype work undertaken on soft aluminium construction moulds, to fully hardened alloy steel volume production moulds moulding to close dimensional tolerances. In order to avoid costly long-term mistakes, the plastic mould application must be thoroughly investigated and fully understood before a selection decision can be made. Once decided upon, the selected material should be written into the tooling specification for future procurement purposes. The use of
